Legal Requirements
The Secrets Vallarta Bay Puerto Vallarta Resort wedding coordinator must receive the following documents to begin the application for marriage in the Civil
Registry Office:
- Bride, groom, and witnesses must arrive in Puerto Vallarta three days before the wedding day (Saturdays, Sundays & holidays do not count). Symbolic and non-legal ceremonies allow flexibility for arrival date. Please speak with the wedding coordinator to discuss the requirements.
- FMM Tourist card (These documents will be given to you by the airline and stamped by the Immigration Officer upon arrival in Mexico).
- If the bride or groom are divorced, they will need their original birth certificates and final divorce decrees. These documents must be translated into Spanish, and each must have a stamp (Le Apostille) of the Registry of their country. The translation must be done by the official translator of the City Hall in Nayarit state; otherwise, it will not be valid.
- Valid passports (clear copies)
- Bride and groom birth certificates with apostilles.
- A blood test must be taken in Mexico. To be considered valid, the test should not be taken more than 14 days before the ceremony. The blood will be tested for HIV, sexually transmitted diseases, and blood type.
- The names, addresses, nationalities, ages, occupation, relationships, copy of a tourist card and a valid identification of the four witnesses. The wedding coordinator will send you the legal form. The witnesses can be friends or anyone who has a valid Passport (who are not Parents or Grandparents).
- Death certificate or divorce certificate from any previous spouse if either party has been married before. Please let the wedding coordinator know so you may be informed of additional applicable fees.
- The marriage certificate is only valid in Mexico. To make it legal internationally, the wedding coordinator will send a copy of your license to the validation process. The process will take up to two to four months. Once the document is apostilled, the resort will send all documentation to the couples’ home address. Additional cost must apply
